Gettin' Routy In Arizona

This weekend, members of Team Tuesday treated a climber from Colorado, named Logan, to a tour of Tucson rock. Samples included the yellow granite of Sky Valley, and the smoothness of dark basalt at Gate's Pass.

My roommate Paco and I were already planning on climbing on Saturday and invited both Kate and Logan to come along with us to Sky Valley. We were limited on time, and only put up two routes, but they were both rad, and both were included on my checklist in yesterday's post: A Fire Inside and Double Play. Logan lead both routes, enjoyed them, and like most people new to Arizona granite climbing, was surprised by the incredible movement the rock requires. Tragically, his clean ascent of Double Play was interrupted by a lack of draws, forcing him to take and down climb to collect gear for anchors. Regardless the work made for some great footage. The start of this climb is very hairy, thus you'll notice some footage, included for the audio, that was sacrificed in the interest of an extra spot. I cannot multitask.

On Sunday at Gate's, we managed to spend the entire night working the 30ft, unnamed v5 traverse, as well as a direct approach to the stout v4 that share the same great start-hold on the Lower of the two main rock piles. A single picture will describe this session for now. But I have a feeling video is soon to come.
